How would you like a subsidized trip - paid for by your CUNY colleagues, no less - to Porto Alegre, Brazil, whose visitors' bureau urges Americans to "take your time and savor the taste of this tourist specialty named Porto Alegre, preferably when the sun is going down, as its sunset is one of the most beautiful ones around the globe"?
|
|
Or, how about a flight - also paid for by your colleagues - to Morelia, Mexico, a UNESCO World Heritage Artistic sight whose "climate provides spring-like days throughout the year"? |
|
Impossible, you say?
Not if you're a member of the PSC elite. Shortly after taking power, President Barbara Bowen
established an "International Committee" of the PSC.
The justification? President Bowen states that understanding global politics is a
prerequisite for fighting for better contracts. Thus, PSC representatives need dues
money to attend international conferences - at vacation hotspots like Morelia and Porto
Alegre. For example, this past summer, the PSC sent two delegates to the Education
International forum in Porto Alegre.

And we believe that PSC dues should be spent fighting for:
Higher salaries
Reduced workload
And restoring the dental and health benefits cut under Bowen's PSC
Our dues should NOT be spent on international junkets for the PSC elite.
What do you think? Let us know.
